Weekly Preview:
August 30 - September 3
Math: This week we are learning about positions: top, middle, bottom; before, between, after; inside, outside; left and right. Using these terms in conversation with your child will help solidify these concepts.
Reading: I am hoping to start reading groups next Tuesday; this week we are still practicing rhyming.
Literature/Writing: We have been learning about parts of the book (front and back cover; title page; title) as well as pre-reading concepts (print goes left to right, top to bottom). We will also be writing in our journals this week.
Social Studies: We will learn about families, school rules, and people you might meet at a school.
August 23-27
Math: This week we are exploring math manipulatives, previewing colors and shapes, and doing beginning classification (same vs. different, etc.)
Reading: I am doing beginning-of-the-year alphabet assessments with all the children to create our upcoming reading groups. Reading groups should begin after Labor Day.
Centers: Your child is learning how to transition between centers this week; we are working on staying at our center until they hear the tamborine signal the time to switch :)
Literature/Writing: This week we are learning about rhyming ... play word games with your child at home to help with this ("Dog/log ... Do those rhyme? Bike/goat ... Do those rhyme?; or "What rhymes with 'cat'?")
