October 31 - November 4
Math: This week are wrapping up our chapter on "more" "less" and "equal sets." The kindergarteners have learned how to create groups with more or less objects, as well as with equal sets (or the "same" number). Continue to use these words with your child ... you would be surprised at how difficult a concept "less" is for them :)
After finishing this chapter, we are moving onto the numbers 0-9. Number sense is very important in kindergarten, so even though these "little" numbers may seem easy to you, they are actually big concepts for children.
Reading Groups: This week I will begin end-of-the-trimester assessments in reading. Because of this, your child's reading group may not meet as regularly (since my assessments are largely individual, one-on-one tests). I will continue to send nightly reading home, so please continue to listen to your child read!!
Writing/Literature: This week's writing will focus on using sight words as well as putting sounds together to create "sound-out" words.
Social Studies: We are finishing our unit on communities, needs vs. wants, jobs, and saving money.
