| | I am Andrea Tudor, Pleasant Grove School’s Kindergarten teacher. I am proud to be a 5th generation Pleasant Grove resident, honored to teach here at the same elementary school that I attended, and so fortunate that my own children were able to go to school here too! My degree is a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from UC Davis, and I hold a teaching credential from CalState TEACH. I have been teaching at PleasantGroveSchool since 2003 (for two years in 4th grade, the rest in Kindergarten). Because so much of my undergraduate education focused on the development of young children, I am truly excited to put that knowledge to work, integrating sound developmentally appropriate practices with the California academic standards. I LOVE teaching kindergarten because every day is a new adventure … plus, I get the joy of watching children learn to read!! Every single year I am amazed by how much they learn (and how much they teach me!)

| | Since 2007, I have been teaching primary grades at PleasantGroveSchool. In the past, I have taught grades first through third, and have loved every minute of it! Each year my class has been unique and the students never cease to capture my heart. I graduated from AzusaPacificUniversity in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. I also have a teaching credential from SacramentoStateUniversity. After graduating from college I had the privilege of working with children in different parts of the world including Kenya, Mexico, and Costa Rica. I am so thankful for the friendly and welcoming Pleasant Grove community. I could not be happier to call this school home.

| | Last year I celebrated thirty years of teaching at Pleasant Grove School. As a third generation native of Elverta, my great-grand parents settled there in the late 1800’s, the community’s heritage is special to me. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science at Willamette University in Oregon. Following a semester of study in Central America, I was moved to go into the field of teaching to help enrich children’s field of experience and world view. I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at California State University, Sacramento. In 1993, I received a Reading Recovery Teacher certification. I have also worked as a ski instructor, a National Park Ranger at Rocky National Park in Colorado, and most recently as a docent at Sutter’s Fort. I am married and have two sons: Kenneth, who graduated from Cal Poly SLO in with a degree in Materials Engineering, and Ryan, who graduated from Cal Poly SLO and is attending USC School of Dentistry. I hope that I can enrich the lives of my students and help them to become life-long learners. The past few years have been particularly rewarding to me to have the pleasure of teaching children of a number of my pervious students. It is a pleasure to see what fine adults those former students have become.

| | As a teacher, I bring over twenty years of teaching experience to Pleasant Grove School. While continuing to stay ever current in new educational practices I have attained a Masters Degree in Education from University of California, Chico, earned my teaching credential from UniversityCaliforniaPolytechnicStateUniversity, Pomona, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theater Arts from California State University Fullerton. I believe in creating an educational environment in which I can meet the academic and democratic needs of all students. I want to instill self confidence, and create intrinsic motivators that empower themselves for success. My goal is to foster students who will respect their community and embrace learning as a means of becoming better citizens, and life long learners. Teaching dance and drama are some of the activities beyond the classroom that I feel contribute in defining and developing self confident and responsible students. I am married, a resident of Roseville with three college age children. My oldest son is an Alumni of UC Davis. My second son presently attends CalStateUniversity, Chico and my youngest is on her way to CalStateUniversity, San Jose.

| | "An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how to make a life." -- Source Unknown It is my job to teach them both. I am Rebecca Gillespie and I currently teach 5th grade. I have been teaching for 10 years and love every minute of it. I love learning new things to improve my teaching and currently finished my Master’s in Education. I love art and music, as well as science and math. In my spare time I scrapbook and read, and really feel there are not enough books in the world.

| | It is such a pleasure to be teaching at Pleasant Grove School. This is a special place that values students and their education. I believe that every child can learn, and it is my job as the teacher to figure out what way works best for each of my students. My goal is to develop students that are critical thinkers, and can make good decisions when faced with new information or placed in an unfamiliar situation. I graduated from University of the Pacific with a degree in Sports Medicine, and spent ten years in the corporate world prior to getting my teaching credential from CSU Sacramento. I have just finished my Mild/Moderate Special Education credential and did my student teaching right here at Pleasant Grove. I am married and a mom with a 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter. They are my best teachers, and often they try out many of my lesson plans prior to using them in the classroom.

| | Hello! My name is Deanna Trujillo-Chrisman and I am the sixth grade teacher. I have been teaching in the upper grades of Pleasant Grove since 2008. I absolutely love my job! It is my goal to provide opportunities for each of your children to grow as individuals, learn, and build life-long memories. I have always enjoyed working with students and families. I graduated with a degree in Child Development from Sacramento State. Prior to my BA, I spent over 100 volunteer hours at Florin Elementary preparing for this career. Pleasant Grove has been a fantastic community to be a part of. Even though I’ve been a life-long resident of Yolo County, I have always felt welcomed! I’m proud to be a teacher in such a wonderful school!

| | I have always lived in the warm and friendly community of Pleasant Grove, and as a student graduated from this school. As a result from this very positive chapter in my life, I made it a priority for my two children to benefit from this same nurturing climate. Furthermore, when I needed to complete my student teaching phase for my credential, I was fortunate enough to enjoy this experience at Pleasant Grove School. Eighteen years later I am delighted to say that I am still here teaching the seventh and eighth grades. A small school environment like ours is one where I have the opportunity to understand every student’s need and address them in a caring, professional way. In the center of this are two areas of passion for me. One is writing instruction, where I prepare my seventh graders for the California State Writing assessment, and the other is our after school sports program. It has been a real privilege to have been able to coach boy’s flag football, basketball, and softball throughout my teaching career.

| | My name is Dawn Carl and I have been happily teaching at Pleasant Grove for 6 years. Currently, I am the 8th grade teacher in addition to teaching the upper grade math program for 6th-8th grade. It is a pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful teaching team as we have in Mrs. Chrisman and Mr. Moore. Throughout my six years at PG I have continued my education receiving my administrative credential and obtaining a Masters of Education. I did not grow up in the area however I did choose to have my son attend PG because of our high academic standards and deep commitment to our students; past and present. It is important to know that our students never really leave PG we continue to maintain our relationships with them. We watch our students go on to high school and college always maintaining our deep desire to see them achieve their individual greatness. “Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world-indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”-Margaret Mead

| | Superintendent/Principal Annette Alberti is proud to report that 90% of the 7th grade students at Pleasant Grove School scored proficient or above on the 2011 state writing exam given to 4th and 7th grade students in California every spring.
Jerry Moore, 7th grade teacher, attributes this success to the efforts of the entire staff. Mrs. Alberti agrees and notes, “A boat can only change course if the entire crew is rowing in the same direction.” Not only does the staff teach writing using the same process and terms, but a great deal of time is spent on the basics of writing an essay with each grade level adding details to the process. By the time students are in 7th grade they have been introduced to various types of writing tasks and are ready to put the pieces together. The result is that students are confident writers who produce high-quality essays. In fact, after the writing exam, the 7th graders were so sure about their final products that Mr. Moore was worried. Now that the scores are in, it’s obvious the students had every right to feel confident.
Congratulations 7th graders Louis, Kade, David, Ethan, Quintin, Hannah, Jacob, Narrissa, Manuel, Abram, VaNessa, Erick, Nick, Susie, Alisha, Donovan, Macie, and Noah – we are proud of you! | |
